memorial and church

MayTacoma-2

Another adventure to Tacoma took us to parts of the city I hadn't visited before. The first stop was the War Memorial Park near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. There were several different walls with the names of people from Tacoma that served, died, and many that were held prisoner during war.

batteries at fort flagler

FortFlagler-32

We had to do a bit of searching to find the batteries at Fort Flagler after our lunch picnic by the beach. We had made it that far--I didn't want to leave until finding them! Thankfully it wasn't too difficult of a search. We mostly explored Battery Revere and Wilhelm.

Fort Worden State Park

FortWorden-10

The Boy and I took Taylor up to Port Townsend a few weeks ago to spend some time at Fort Worden. Taylor's favorite part was playing on the beach, but ours was exploring the old batteries.

Vantage

On our way home from Calgary this summer we stopped at a pull-out outside of Vantage, WA to admire the Columbia River and the iron horse monument on the other side of I-90 before heading on to Thorp. (We opted to not visit the monument itself... we wanted to get home!)

The river and surrounding landscape was beautiful. Very different from Western Washington, but still lovely in its own way.

The Kings and Me in PT

I've been able to cross a few things off of my fun summer to-do list... I successfully went on a road trip to CA for John and Tina's wedding and I got some great photos while going through Banff. There's still a bunch of things I want to do, but who knows if I'll get to them before "summer" has passed on into "fall" (if there will even be a difference weather-wise).

I got to check off a couple more when Laura (with Elle) and I went on a little photo adventure to Port Townsend.

I hadn't been to Port Townsend in ages... I knew I liked it, but forgot how much.

Nelson Park

I've lived in Poulsbo for two years, walking distance from this little gem of a park--yet I hadn't visited it at all until I was out collecting data for a work project.

canoe journey

I took the opportunity last week to go watch one of the stops along this year's Salish Sea canoe journey, Paddle to Swinomish, when the paddlers stopped in Suquamish.

It is such an amazing thing to witness. Listening to the drums, songs, welcomes, requests for permissions to come ashore... it all gives me chills.
