The river and surrounding landscape was beautiful. Very different from Western Washington, but still lovely in its own way.

Vantage
On our way home from Calgary this summer we stopped at a pull-out outside of Vantage, WA to admire the Columbia River and the iron horse monument on the other side of I-90 before heading on to Thorp. (We opted to not visit the monument itself... we wanted to get home!)
The river and surrounding landscape was beautiful. Very different from Western Washington, but still lovely in its own way.

Thorp Fruit and Antique Mall
No road trip is complete without at least one stop at an antique/thrift store... and it doesn't get much better than the Thorp Fruit and Antique Mall.
The first floor is full of fruit, wine, and other goodies.
The second and third floors are packed full of antiques and potential finds. This is my kind of place!

what the what
What happens when four adult women cram into a Toyota Camry and drive from Port Orchard, WA to Lodi, CA?
Lots of laughing, mis-read signs ("Mochas Granitas" instead of "Muchos Gracias" when we were looking for caffeine, and "land of fuel haters" instead of "land of pure water" when we were looking for a gas station... funny how the mind works), ridiculous conversations, and overall good times.
The featured event of the road trip was, of course, John and Tina's beautiful wedding (which we preceded with an awesome wine tasting outing).
We danced, laughed, and enjoyed each other's company.

DeMille's Farm Market
After we got our suburban and left Chilliwack, we continued on our way to Calgary by going north and east through Kamloops (where we were supposed to stay) and into Salmon Arm. Mom spotted a tall water tower on the side of the road that read "DeMille's Farm Market" with signs for fresh corn and made the quick decision to pull over and check it out.

Best. Decision. Ever.

Memorial Adventures
I love three-day weekends. But even though they are longer than my normal weekend, when they end I wish they would last just a bit longer.
I guess that just makes me appreciate weekends more. Or something like that.
I tried to pack a bunch of stuff into the long weekend... it started Thursday evening with a trip over to Seattle for a dear friend's surprise birthday dinner at The Pink Door. (Delicious food and great atmosphere--even though we had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation to be seated. The staff was great and gave us free appetizers for our wait!)
