one of our favorite places

We love Port Townsend. I don't even know how many times we've decided on a "do nothing" weekend (which is a rare treat since we/I have plans most weekends) but somehow end up going to Port Townsend. I'm pretty sure we have withdrawals if we don't go at least once a month.

It was that time again on Saturday, and I wanted to check out the farmers' market. I was a little overwhelmed at first--there were a LOT more people than I was expecting! But I still picked up a bunch of beets, a bunch of rainbow carrots (so pretty!), a few lemon cucumbers, and a head of lettuce.

Awhile ago we decided that we needed to try every food place we were interested in before repeating. It worked out pretty well for us because we discovered an Italian place that has a tomato soup that we both love (John hates tomatoes, so this is a big deal) and a sushi/ramen place that is also delicious. We had lunch at the ramen place last time...

So this time we decided to get another favorite: hot dogs! For anyone that knows me, you may be surprised. I don't actually like hot dogs. My got-to (and the only thing I've ever ordered) is the Mario that is actually a sausage with marinara, mozzarella, and bell peppers. SO GOOD.

We walked through a few shops, got some ice cream (amaretto hazelnut and chocolate in a waffle cone for me, cookies n cream for John), took our time going home, and had an awesome dinner that night with my market goodies and stuffed fish from Tacoma Boys!

I love weekends like this.

I went to a baby shower on Sunday for a dear friend from high school, Beth. She's living out of state and didn't make it to our high school reunion last month so it's been quite awhile since I'd seen her--over a year for sure, probably closer to two!

Sara, Liz and I met up before the shower, had brunch at Toro Lounge (I had their huevos rancheros with "seasonal fruit" on the side... the huevos rancheros was awesome, but the fruit was rather gross--I expected fresh fruit, but it was cooked/jammy and weird), went to the Bremerton Farmers' Market downtown, stopped at a creepy garage sale, checked out downtown Seabeck, and then finally made our way to the shower.

The shower was nice and simple and we had lots of time to catch up with Beth and another good friend, Stacey. Beth's sisters did an awesome job putting it together! One of them made these AMAZING paper peonies out of coffee filters using this tutorial and paper roses (not sure what tutorial she used for those) and made all of the other decorations, too! There weren't any games, which is a nice change of pace for a shower so we could focus more on Beth and spending time with the other guests.

I got to spend more time with Liz and Sara after the shower, too, since we were a bit early getting Liz to her ferry, so we stopped at Starbucks to visit awhile longer.

It was so nice to have some good quality girl time! I feel so lucky that I can still call these amazing ladies my friends, even ten years after graduating high school, and that our friendships have grown with us. We still talk about boys and other things like we did back then (hopefully in a more mature way than "OMG he's so cute" and "he looked at me!") but we can also talk about everything else in our lives, too. Health, growing up, careers, families, etc. The only downside is that there never seems to be enough time!

Memorial Adventures

I love three-day weekends. But even though they are longer than my normal weekend, when they end I wish they would last just a bit longer.

I guess that just makes me appreciate weekends more. Or something like that.

I tried to pack a bunch of stuff into the long weekend... it started Thursday evening with a trip over to Seattle for a dear friend's surprise birthday dinner at The Pink Door. (Delicious food and great atmosphere--even though we had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation to be seated. The staff was great and gave us free appetizers for our wait!)
