canoe journey
I took the opportunity last week to go watch one of the stops along this year's Salish Sea canoe journey, Paddle to Swinomish, when the paddlers stopped in Suquamish.
It is such an amazing thing to witness. Listening to the drums, songs, welcomes, requests for permissions to come ashore... it all gives me chills.

Dare to... have traditions!
This is the sixth and final week of the Dare to DIY blog party hosted by the NewlyWoodwards. It's been a lot of fun so I'm a little sad to see it go...
This week is "Dare to have traditions": Everyone has traditions for the Holidays. Tell us all about your favorites or start a new tradition to share.
One of my favorite things about this time of year is the traditions. I love knowing that I'll get to see a bunch of my family in a span of a couple of days, make and eat lots of goodies, and enjoy the moments without worrying about what needs to be done at home or work. (That last one may be a large factor in why I'm enjoying the season so much this year.)
Traditionally Christmas Eve is spent with my dad's side of the family and Christmas Day is spent with my mom's.

happy baking
Thanksgiving is traditionally spent with my mom's side of the family, plus any friends, etc that need a place to go.
Everyone contributes something.
My dad and I are in charge of the pies... well, the last few years it's just been me.
We always have apple and pumpkin.
This year I am planning on making an apple pie, a pumpkin pie {with home grown pumpkin from one of my co-workers!} and I am going to try out the reduced sugar pumpkin cheesecake from Kalyn's Kitchen.
I've been loving pumpkin cheesecake lately so hopefully my attempt comes out as good as Kalyn's looks!
If I remember I'll try to get some pics... and if I'm not too covered in flour. {Ha!}
I'll be baking at my mom's house... she has a better kitchen for pie-making. {Someday I want an island in my kitchen that is big enough to roll out pie dough. My "someday" list is getting quite long!} Plus, the mess will be there instead of my house. :)
Happy baking this Thanksgiving Eve!
