spring is still here

Last year it was baby bunnies. Then Taylor found two more this year.

Then...

Tay was going CRAZY outside. I thought perhaps one of the neighborhood dogs came by, but when I looked outside I didn't see anything. No dogs. No cats. No cars or people. Just Taylor whining, barking, and a little bit of the infamous Toller-scream... and something moving down by the neighbor's fence.

things that make me smile, vol. 9

1. Being reminded that while I live in my little house, so many other critters call my property and surrounding area "home." Like lots and lots of bunnies, birds, raccoons, deer, and little frogs. (I've heard rumors of bears and coyotes, too!) I hope I can help keep it that way. But I'm ok if the bears and coyotes decide not to visit...

Sekiu

One of the big draws to the Seattle Aquarium lately is their recent addition: the little baby otter, Sekiu.

I was excited to see her when we stopped in somewhat spontaneously a little while ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one excited to see her-- the otter habitat viewing area was packed with people trying to catch a glimpse!

I did manage to get a sweet series of Sekiu's mom lifting her up onto their little dock...

The Specialty!

The main event of our trip to Calgary (via Chilliwack and the DeMille's Farm Market) was the Alberta Kennel Club (AKC) All-Breed Dog Show and the Canadian Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever National Specialty, which included conformation, obedience, and working certificate testing (in the field).

It was a long weekend.

spring is in the air

I got home on Wednesday and let Taylor out to do his business and he kept going back to this one spot along the fence, digging and getting super excited. He had been interested in the same spot the night before, which is quite unusual for him. He's not normally a digger (except the one time he dug and escaped out of his kennel).

I went over to try to figure out what in the world could get him to be so animated/obsessive/weird(-er than normal).

And I found a baby bunny!

After a few moments of freaking out (what do I do with an abandoned baby baby??) it dawned on me that rabbits aren't known for producing one offspring at a time.

After some more pondering and subtle freaking-out (mostly internally, with a few texts to the guy) I noticed that some of the cut grass and moss kept moving strangely. At first I attributed it to the fly exploring the area... but no fly could move moss like that.

But these guys could:

the rainbow litter

The primary reason for heading up to Vancouver Island was to meet Sunny's first litter... affectionately referred to as the "rainbow litter" because the dam's name is Storm. Sun + Storm = Rainbows! All of the puppies were given color-themed names while they await new names from their forever-families.

tissue paper and kitties don't mix

Or actually, they DO mix... but a little too well.

Unless you don't want to use the tissue paper.

I was having a tough time making the tissue paper pom-pom flowers for the baby shower I helped my sister with last month.

You see... Louie likes tissue paper. A LOT. (Really, anything that crinkles.)

My first clue was this:
