me time

Tonight is the first night in weeks that I don't have any plans... no meetings, no road trips, no weddings.

And I am so excited! A night to myself to finally catch up on things. There's a ton I want/need to do and I want to do it all--but that's not realistic.

I definitely need groceries. I pride myself in being able to make a meal out of almost nothing... but my fridge hasn't been this empty since I moved in. Even I can't do much with soy milk, cheese, and salsa. First on the list: food.

I am actually looking forward (for once) to mowing my grass. The so-called "lawn" around my house is more like a jungle of dandelions that got out of control while I was away in Calgary and then California. It mocks me every time I pull into my driveway. Tonight I hope to tame it.

my make it, bake it lifestyle

I'm kinda sorta on this new kick... I wouldn't quite call it a "goal" or even a "diet" but it's something that I find myself thinking about and considering whenever I go grocery shopping recently.

I am trying to eat only what I make, limiting the amount of processed foods I buy/eat.

There are a handful of reasons why this appeals to me.

Health is definitely a huge factor-- if it's not worth taking the time to make myself, is it really worth putting into my body? This idea helps me say "no" to tempting breads, cookies, and other treats that might otherwise make their way into my shopping cart.

illustrations only get you so far

Last Tuesday was a long day. Work was rough--a lot of things going on in general, but then I had plans to leave for nearly a week so the pressure was on to get some things accomplished. 5 o'clock finally came and I started to head home... only to get pulled over by a cop on my road. Figures.

Apparently my headlight was out.

I thought the light (or lack of) seemed odd when I left work, but I didn't have much extra thinking power to do anything more than notice.

The cop lady was very nice--no ticket!
